Bride

My take on https://lindaghill.com/2024/01/04/daily-prompt-jusjojan-the-4th-2024/

‘Captivating,’ Alan whispered, as his pride and joy stood at the top of the stairs. He rarely cried. Not even when Chelsea won the treble. Now, with graceful steps in his direction, his tears cascaded down his face.

‘You okay?’

‘You are beautiful. I am so proud of you.’

Elizabeth lowered her eyes to the folds of her flowing silk gown. She always desired the fairytale, with lots of frills and layers.

A traditional ceremony.

Not the reception; She handled all preparations herself. Bags of toys and sweets for the children – including her daughter and teenage son. Tables strewn with party gifts for each guest. A chocolate fountain with marshmallows as her centre piece. Each guest’s name displayed in a little box, revealing a heart and a thank you note inside.

Not so much a Bridezilla, but more of a shopaholic maniac.

‘Love you Dad,’ she said.

His grin spread like the first day she was born.

Dressed in his finest suit, he hoped his speech would be quick. His tongue was so tied when he practiced in the mirror, it took several drinks and a gentle persuasion from his wife to finish what he started.

It was all worth it.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. The first time I ever saw my dad cry was when I was 18, the day I tried on my long white wedding dress and veil to show him how I would look as a bride… ❤

  2. Well I really enjoyed that….. It got a tad scary as the plans for the reception were divulged! … Sometimes a second wedding is to make up for the first?….Let’s hope she didn’t break the bank! Lovely post, really liked it 💜
