Either Way

I hide in the depths of murky water until the human moves on by. It can go either way. You trample grass, escaping, does more damage than you think. The other will take me in their hand, removing me from my safe place.

Despite the fear, being a spider has its benefits.

Making my silk web strong and flies won’t be aware of the trap until they are stuck firm. Early morning is my favourite. The frost almost glows. Human’s loathe being up before sunrise.

The only company I have is the ladybird next door. She eloquently soars. Scarlet wings peppered with white globes of hope.

Our habitat is beautiful. Please, you are ruining the countryside with your rubbish. Although, this vase is a comfortable home. Deep, dirty liquid is the perfect hiding spot. When you do find me, I curl tight.

When you escape, I scramble out, with tentative steps.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
