‘You have purple hair!’

‘Do you like it?’

‘You are sixty, what will Dad think?’

Sarah didn’t care what he thought. Twenty years of married life , and he sought comfort elsewhere.

‘I have made a decision. He is a great father, that much I am sure of, but our partnership is over. It is not what you expect, but she is welcome to him.’

Davina blinked, her gaze lowered to the floor.

‘I have spent half of my marriage cooking his meals, and sharing our life. I want to find my style, and I am going on holiday. Somewhere hot.’ She brought her daughter into a hug, allowing her tears to slow before she allowed a gap.

‘When?’ she asked.

‘Next week, when you are back home.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
