I love dogs, but I didn’t used to. My next door neighbour had an Alsatian and he was brought to be a guard dog. Whenever I touched the fence, it would growl. When I observed them in the street I would walk the other way. When I married my husband (a family with many canines) I got to know Alex. He was an Old English Sheepdog, who stole cheese and was the kindest animal on four legs. My mother-in-law also had seven Jack Russell’s. When my children asked for their own dog, I told them yes, but only if it were a puppy.
He was named after the pup in Lady and the Tramp. The runt of the litter, his breed was unknown. His dad was a white German Shephard, and his mum a mongrel. From the moment I laid my eyes on him there was a bond. He followed me everywhere, and putting him down was the hardest thing I have had to do.
We now have a German Shephard, Rotweiller and it would be a quiet life without him. He cut his pad this week, because someone left broken glass on the pavement. Grounded for a fortnight, he does look sorrowful in his cone of shame. An expensive trip, I had to put it through my insurance.
I would have a cat if I could, but he hasn’t grown up with them. I prefer animals to people. They are loyal, won’t talk behind your back, and their love is unconditional. There are owners who take advantage of that, and there should be a law to protect them.
I agree, animals are far better than people. Give me a dog any day and I’m all set!

I was hoping that you would have shared a picture of Scamp, but I do appreciate you joining in with your dog story Diana.

This is a very nice piece. I don’t own a dog now, we have two cats, but I do like dogs. We always had dogs when I was a girl.

Oh your animal pics are adorable–I love them. We are doglovers in our family and of those we have had each one has been an angel in disguise, each one’s passing a heartbreak though we know we’ll see them one day. Had a cat too that behaved more like a dog, lol, probably because she grew up with one and though he weighed ten times more than she did, they were buddies. 💖💞

Scamp grew up with cats and they were in charge. I would love a cat, but it wouldn’t be fair to the cat and dog

Lovely post and photos Diana. I agree that dogs love unconditionally, and there should be laws to protectt them from bad owners. Dogs are loyal and loving, and don’t shaft you for a percentage.
I too love dogs, and Maya is my third GSD, but first GSD puppy. She’s BIG, but then we knew she would be, but there’s not an aggressive bone in her body.

There isn’t, and dogs will shower their human in love. Cats just pretend to like us

I love the pictures of your pup. So sorry to hear about his cut! The cone of shame is so annoying for them.

He hates it, but it stops him hurting his paw.
