The Call

‘I’m making the call,’ the headteacher said.

Tears formed a waterfall on Stephen’s face as he dragged his feet under the chair. It wasn’t like he was the only student, who was flying paper airplanes. His best friend Tim hurled it in his direction and it was only proper he returned it.

‘Might have done, but only cause …’ Snitches got stitches. Besides, they had pinky swore to not get each other into trouble and he kept quiet when Miss Jones blamed him for the frog in the drawer. ‘Please don’t, he’ll ground me for sure. I promised I would be good.’

‘This isn’t the first time you have faced difficulties in Science. You excel at English, and you are in the highest group at math.’

‘She’s so boring, and she always has a go at me. Everyone hates her.’

‘That’s not kind.’

‘Sorry, but she keeps on at me for everything. Even when everybody is noisy, she still blames me.’

‘I tell you what, I’ll give you one more chance. We have to take responsibility for our actions. You can spend the rest of the term taking care of the fish, and the rats. I will set up a meeting tomorrow. Perhaps a little responsibility will help.’

It was an extremely difficult decision – brave the wrath of home, or that of the school. The tick of the clock was so loud it was impossible to hear. One more strike, and he was in danger of losing his mobile.

‘Alright, but only if you are there. I will speak to the old … I Mrs Williams.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
