Childhood

1. Regardless of whether you had them, can you remember three popular toys from when you were a child?

Pogo sticks, Tiny Tears and a turntable.

2. Did you ever want something specific, but never had it?

I was fortunate and if I requested an item, my parents always made an effort to purchase it for me. The thing I desired the most was a turntable, with tape cassette and radio. I got this when I was twelve. At Christmas I searched the house and when I found it, had to act surprised.

3. Do you still have any toys or games from your childhood?

No, I wasn’t very good at looking after them.

4. What was your favourite toy?

A pink, petite typewriter.

They brought me other gifts like Cindy and her accessories, reading books and dressing up clothes.

I am grateful, not for the objects, although they were brilliant, but for my mum and dad. I was never hungry and slept in a warm bed and loved. I went out with my friends, and we were more independent.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
