It was just one day.
The moment she was preparing to see her birth Mummy for the first time. She loved her adoptive parents. They took on excursions to the park, brought story books. Leaving them wasn’t an option.
The only memory of her other home was eating beans on toast and laughing at a television show.
Charlie pulled her bear near. ‘What is a supervised visit?’
‘Where a social worker sits with you.’ Sophie stopped, turning to the wall for a minute before facing her daughter again.
‘Please go in with me.’
‘No, it is a chance for you and you to talk. She was very young when you were born and it might scare her.’
‘What is she like?’
‘I don’t know, but she wanted to meet you. It was difficult for her to let you leave. Remember that letter? That was special?’
‘Yes, but what if she wants to live with her.’
‘That won’t happen, you are my little girl. We adopted you? This is so she can see you. Make certain you are happy with us.’
As her child walked in the house, she held the stuffed animal to her chest.
It was one day.

I liked your story; you brought both the mother and child’s fears to life. And thank you for joining in with our new challenge. 🙂

Reality. We all will have some kind of a ‘one day’ experience. Sometimes it’s sweet. Sometimes it’s terrifying. I’ve had to be there for someone’s ‘one day’. Time does help. I liked your story. Short, emotional and to the point
