Front Crawl

1. Can you swim?

I am not a strong swimmer and have only managed the front crawl. I am not sure if I could save myself from drowning.

2. If so, do you prefer a pool, river or the sea? If not, will you paddle or dip your toes?

A pool, where my feet touch the ground. I panic if it is too deep. The sea is okay, but I don’t go out too far.

3. Did you have outings to the beach as a child?

My dad was an excellent swimmer. My mother preferred going to bingo, and would complain of the heat about half an hour into the day. After his swim, I would make sandcastles and sit with him while he read the newspaper.

When I was seven, we visited a holiday camp, and two boys threw me in at the deep end. Following that, we visited Margate, typically staying in a guest house. Bed, breakfast and evening meal. Mum didn’t want to cook while she was away from work as she was a dinner lady. Bed, breakfast and evening meal.

4. Do you like cotton candy (candyfloss)?

I cannot eat too much as it is too sweet.

Gratitude: I have fond memories of holidays in the UK. I have never been abroad, but we have some beautiful areas and I love the English coastline. Yorkshire, Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and my firm favourite, The Isle of White.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. I’m a Dorset lass born and bred….. Poole is my home town. Hubby and I camped a lot in Devon and Cornwall over the years. I’ve been to Isle of Wight once and made the mistake of going upstairs on the bus. I have never felt so ill and practically kissed the ground when we got off. The return journey was spent downstairs right at the front! We came back with a bell filled with the coloured sand.
I don’t count the trip across the Solent in a speed boat to meet up with boyfriend of the time’s parents for lunch. I hung on for dear life and had bruises to prove it!
    Thanks for joining in Diana.
