Busy

We jostled together like tourists.

Our summer long gone, we take a well-deserved break from our busy season. A beautiful sun sets in the west, granting our wood a respite from the midday heat. My stern dips into the worried waters.

It used to be an adventure, but now it feels tainted.

We could visualise the bottom of the ocean, each fish, feathered friends, and insect happy in their own way. It is frightening how the black sludge sticks upon their wings, and nets strangle their ability to breathe.

We are partly to blame; each journey adding to their misery.

Sometimes, guilt rears through my port, as I struggle to sleep, even in the most contented weary weather. Tears stream across my bow, mingling with the ocean’s cries.

When I talk with my mates, it isn’t all gloom.

The hopeful light swims; we can all help; humanity should share some responsibility, and push to support our seas. It is possible, we just have to share the love.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. So very beautiful sentiment just like the one I carry within. May we wake up before it’s too late.
We have brains. And let’s remember we have hearts too. We need both to tackle the mess and save ourselves.
Thanks for writing this loveliness, Diana. Just beautiful
