Straw

It’s not much of a job being a professional scarecrow, but it pays well. All I have to do is stand in a field and protect the seeds from rampaging birds. I remain as motionless as a human playing musical chairs and when the time is right; So funny! Last week I let them peck on the ground, just once, before scaring them all away. How do I get paid? The farmer lets me have the barn all to myself. When the autumn leaves fall and the plants go to sleep, so do I.

He treats me to a special strength straw, and I am more scary again.

At Christmas, we share a plate of vegetables together and I got a gift of a brand new hat.

All I have to do is scare those pesky crows.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
