Sarah hung the tablecloth in her hands. ‘What is this?’
‘You are drying the dirty dishes.’
‘I’m of the boomer generation,’ she argued. ‘We use the dishwasher.’
Aunty Carol smiled, not sure if her niece was joking or not. ‘if you would like some of Uncle Sam’s dessert, this is what you need to do. Besides, your mum is looking after your brother, and we all share the load.’
‘What is he cooking?’
‘Home made apple pie.’
Picking up the t towel, she dried a plate. She loved her uncle’s creations. A talented cook, his platter of different meat was the highlight of Boxing Day. Missing out on his sweet treat was inconceivable.
‘I’ll lend a hand.’
‘Thought you might. Now let’s put some music on. It takes a lot less time when you are singing.’
A glass of lemonade with ice. She snuggled on the sofa, with her aunty, mum, and a box of chocolates. A relaxing way to spend the afternoon. The Grinch, a superb movie, and she didn’t want to leave.
‘So, I hear you helped in the kitchen,’ her mum said. ‘Now all you need to learn is how to use the washing machine.’
love this Diana ❤ amazing, xoxo

❤ It is a true story, when my daughter was thirteen she asked the same thing.

I don’t think they offer home economics in the schools anymore

It took me a while to work out a microwave. Never had a dishwasher, but the automatic washing machine was a huge improvement on the twin tub! Good post Diana

Mum had a twin tub, back when washing clothes was an all day experience.

So did mine, but she had a single tub washer with a mangle before that. When she got her automatic, she drew up a chair thinking she had to watch it.
