Growth Mindset

A growth mindset; Deena thought about her recent experience in learning how to cook; a spaghetti bolognaise, cooked from scratch, deserved a glass of wine with her homemade meal.

When I joined slimming world, I learnt to make a spaghetti bolognaise. I thought it would be a complicated dish, but found out that all I had to do was add vegetables, mince, and chopped tomatoes and they magically turned into one of my favourite dinners.

Couldn’t go to shop brought now; too sweet.

There are several types of mindset; one is a fixed, is a refusal to learn new things and a growth mindset, where you are willing to expand your knowledge. This isn’t limited to intelligence. I have seen students with the ability to do more, restrict themselves to what they are good at, rather than be brave enough to fail. I have also known children struggling with academics, but have persevered and made their own progress.

It is part of the reason why I retook my GCSE Math this year. I wanted to find out if I could do it. Will it help in any future job searches? I’m not sure, but I am still glad I pushed myself.

Truth is, I kind of miss the lessons, and would love to find something else I could participate in. Perhaps I should learn to cook other things, and take my husband with me.
