I went to Ilfracombe on my holiday this year.
On the last day, my daughter wanted to go on a boat ride.
When I saw the speedboat, I felt my stomach drop. To get on, we had to climb onto the edge. There were two grown men helping me in. I couldn’t show fear in front of my five-year-old granddaughter, so gave it a go. Once inside, they showed us the lifebelts. They didn’t look like they could help me float, but once you pulled the cord, they inflated.
In the first minutes of our journey to see the seals, I gripped the railing so tight there should have been grooves in the metal. We were told to keep our bottoms on the seats when it rose and fell with the waves.
I got used to moving with the sea, and I allowed my fingers to relax.
With no warning, at the end, they completed several doughnuts; it leans to the left and right, and makes circles. My hands held securely on the rail and didn’t let go until we stopped.
My family giggled at my reaction.
Would I do this again?
Yes, because I didn’t die the first time.
Haha! I love your attitude, Diana!

That reminds me of a boat trip as a kid, going out to see the seals! I have to laugh, cos despite a love of boats (as photographic subjects) I am no sailor
