Roses

  1.  If you could be a flower or a plant, what would you be and why? I would be a rose; it is my favourite flower, and gave my dad comfort when he was diagnosed with Cancer. My neighbour grew roses, which spread over his fence, and it always made him smile.
  2.  Do you believe in magic? The magic of friendship, and family I totally agree with. I think the real magic is learning. Science would have been shown as magic, but we now understand how things work. Do we know everything? No. Is it possible to learn? Absolutely.
  3.   Do you believe in Karma? I think the more good deeds we do, it should be reflected on how others treat us. Sadly, that isn’t always true.
  4.   Do you live in a community spirited neighbourhood? When I was a girl, neighbours looked out for each other. I was always round next door, taking my bag of Cindy dolls, clothes and furniture, and spent some time with their children. We went blackberry picking, and she would bake a delicious apple and blackberry pie with the proceeds. A lady, who lived opposite, would lend mum sugar and cigarettes. The street was a safe place to be in, and my parents knew most people. Community doesn’t really exist because tolerance doesn’t exist. The British flags at half mast don’t welcome newcomers. The days of knocking on someone’s door and getting help rarely happens. I am grateful for the street I live in; even though we rarely talk to our neighbours, I know we will help each other if needed. It might not be the same as when I was growing up, but I am lucky to have nice neighbours.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Lovely post Diana. Thanks for joining in and sharing your world. We always seemed to have at least one elderly neighbour when I was growing up and my parents encouraged me to check on them during power cuts and the colder months.
