An illusion of coffee sat on her table, ready for the next person in the room.
She smoothed out the white icing over the chocolate coffee cup. Just two hours prior, the kitchen bustled. Flour spread along the side like a thin layer of snow. Fondant icing folded into tiny people her thoughts washed through the room.
She molded a little yellow life jacket and a flat cap. The canoeM her favourite, reminded her of a time when a simple life meant more than money. His tiny miniature held in her palm, she closed her eyes. Each ripple rose and fell. The perfect day. Sunshine, with a few clouds to spare. That’s what her granddad used to say.
Careful to keep the blue tray clear, she placed the cup alongside a plate full of his favourite bourbon biscuits and swept into his front room. Photographs of varying sizes covered his wooden chest of drawers. Her mum, dad, brother and sister beamed at yet another wedding reception.
Laughter kept him alive; she passed the tray on to his lap.
‘Funny sort of coffee love.’
That miniature would take quite an effort. The question in my mind is “Is he still around?”
