‘Trick or treat; all American nonsense; in my day, we didn’t have such a thing.’
Grampi Johnson folded his arms, into his chest and tapped his pen on his crossword puzzle.
‘Well, that’s not quite true; remember penny for the guy, where we used to go around the houses collecting money to buy sparklers on Firework Night, or singing carols at Christmas, no different from asking for sweets and dressing up as ghosts, witches, and a spooky Spiderman.’
A smile swept across the old man’s face as he remembered using the soot to streak across his face. ‘Your grannie is right as usual, I’ll give you a couple of packs of Haribo, but make sure you stay safe.’
‘I will, and I won’t knock on any doors where the light is out, or there are no pumpkins outside.’
He passed some small sweets into her cauldron. ‘That’s sensible advice, and no wandering off, listen to your mummy, and when you get back, we’ll make some of your favourite hot chocolate, it’s a bit nippy out there.’
This is lovely 🎃
