Oklahoma!

1. What was the last book you read? I am reading a book called ‘‘Blitz Girls’’. It is about three women who join the Home Guard in WW2. Each has their own story to tell. I enjoy reading about that time period. Most of the stories have strong, proud, resourceful women, not afraid to be independent.
2. Do you think movies are better or worse than the books they are based on? It depends on the movie. I love the Harry Potter books. The Philosopher’s Stone was better as a movie. However, The Half-Blood Prince movie annoyed fans because it missed out a battle in Hogwarts, which was changed to the Weasley’s home. In the next movie, Bill and Fleur got married there. Not possible when the house burnt down.
3. What is the most memorable movie soundtrack or theme to you? Harry Potter, I would know that theme tune anywhere.
4. Did you enjoy the old musicals (Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Howard Keel, Doris Day, ect? Yes, I grew up watching those movies. Gene Kelly was one of my favourites. His dancing skill, whether it was on skates, in the rain, or with Jerry (partner to Tom). Made a mistake on a comment. https://sillyfrogsusan.blog/author/sillyfrogsusan/ Sorry. Not Mickey Mouse, lol. A big fan of musicals, I don’t think I missed any of them. I watched Annie Get Your Gun, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and many other great movies.

I am grateful for being a child, where musicals were on the television. A song can bring happiness and all we have to do is remember a name, or a movie, and our thoughts are filled with love.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. The book sounds pretty good. I looked it up and I see the author has other similar ones, too. I do like series. But, I’ve never read Harry Potter. I’ve seen little bits of the first movie, and of course have heard about the story. I think there are people on movie staff that are in charge of continuity, or something to make sure there are no big gaps, or changes in the films. It sometimes is really noticeable when we see some thing like you mention. Musicals are fun to watch, and I’ve liked a lot of them, too. 🙂

    1. I read the book to my daughter, and she was about ”Harry Potter’s” age. She didn’t like reading, and once we read the first, she started to read the series. Even though I was sorted into Ravenclaw, and her into Hufflepuff, it was a shared enjoyment.

  2. Lovely share Diana. Thanks for taking part.
I could never get into Harry Potter, but will look out for The Blitz Girls.
I love the old musicals, Ann Miller, Fred and Ginger, Danny Kaye etc.
Happy childhood memories, and songs to remember.
