Inseparable

Candles floated along the river as he remembered his friends.

When they were children, they were inseparable. Whether it was watching Harry Potter films, playing in the park, or swimming in the lake, there was laughter. If they argued, they always resolved it before going home.

He picked up his mobile as he let the hope lights free.

A joint video call, it was his turn to collect the gang together.

New York, London, Bangladesh, Milton Keynes, and Northampton; he saw his screen light up with joy. A little drunk; some were sober, they wished each other a happy new year.

A promise to Steven. Never lose touch. Grow old together, not apart, and keep the joy in your heart. Only seven when he lost his life, they never forgot to be best friends.

‘Happy Birthday,’ they said, as their smiles ripples over oceans.
