Happy Clouds

Written for https://skepticskaddish.com/category/poetry/poetry-prompt/ This is a poem I wrote a few years ago, but it fit the brief of comedy.

A picnic to share

A horse and a toad,

Skipped down the road,

Happy clouds cooling the day,

With a lump of cheese,

And cake if you please,

They sang in the month of May.

Along cruised a rat,

In a sparkly cravat,

Some crackers he had spare,

The decision was made,

All the food was displayed,

Tasty morsels they would share.

Along flew a rabbit,

Who as a force of habit,

Took tea at that time of day,

So upon a tree,

He perched quietly,

On a soft bundle of hay.

The horse, toad and rat,

In tails and top hat,

Stopped to watch him drink,

The toad jumped over,

A red field of clover,

Giving the rabbit a wink.

As the rabbit jumped down,

It loosened his crown,

Rubies they dropped everywhere,

He picked them all up,

Put them in his pink cap,

And placed it back on his hair.

The horse toad and rat,

Swinging his plaits,

Joined rabbit for some tea,

On a pink spotty blanket,

All ate at the banquet,

Giving the crumbs to a flea.

As they floated away,

On a cloud made of hay,

They sang a happy tune,

The horse, toad and rat,

In his polka dot hat,

Zoomed all the way to the moon.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
