Amazing Sight

Each dizzy wave, swaying in the wind, swept into the ocean, cleaned away in a friendship of bubbles. The swell of salty liquid crashed, white suds frothing before it cleaned its memory clear.

Our boat bobbed over the waves as I stuck to the seat as it hooked each particle, before crashing into the sea. I gripped the railing so tight, there were grooves in the metal. A strip of steam shot from the back.

I relaxed against the railing, and my gaze spread to a family of seals, huddled together for protection. One heart beating against the shore. You laughed at my fear, but understood it too. The hook of nature, so beautiful, and untouched by humans, an amazing sight.

The wish to protect loved ones, never changes.

As we neared the harbour, the shock of the doughnut shapes caused me to grip the railings again. The tiny boat sweeping high, before it landed with a thud. As each curve slowed, I understood nothing bad was going to happen.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
