Half Full

Sarah opened the wooden door as the church welcomed her with a liturgy.

When she was little, she attended Sunday school. In her drawer, she still had her white candle, hidden amongst photographs of her dad. The half full, or empty church held a silence she needed to be part of.

All creatures great and small.

She didn’t know why, but she sang along. Her belief in a heavenly power diminished with each loss, yet she clung to the hope that the words from her church lessons meant something. She shared optimism in song, with her St. Christopher close to her chest.

Whatever her beliefs, there was the positivity of love in this room.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
