Leading you away from danger

In my eyes, you are like my child

giving safe passage is in my smile

halting the dark thoughts with my light

trusting in the sea to guide you home

Hope never fails as I watch you glide

on wishes that will soon come true

use my love to bring you safely into

every new day.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Diana, thanks for waiting for me to get my act together. Health and a poetry project got in the way.

I picked up a strong sense of care and protection running through this poem. The guiding role comes through clearly, especially in how the speaker offers safety and reassurance.

This would be even stronger if you introduced a specific moment where the guidance is needed. I see from your bio that you have adult children and a grandchild. Perhaps you could draw on that experience to convey an element of uncertainty or risk? You could exemplify the guiding role in action rather than as a general feeling.

Thanks for engaging, and delivering the love poem I was expecting.

  2. Diana, this is a lovely poem my friend. I was close to tears with this line: use my love to bring you safely into

    every new day.

What a lovely sentiment. I know where that comes from. Bless you. Thanks for sharing this. xo
