Excuses

Written for https://ragtagcommunity.wordpress.com/2026/03/21/rdp-saturday-book-club/

I joined a book club about a year ago.

However, I keep making excuses not to go even though it is only a ten minute drive away. It could be that I am afraid of meeting new people and having conversations with strangers. Another blogger talked about finding friends with similar viewpoints and that made me think. Even when they see the story in a different way, we could all learn something new.

Perhaps I should go to the next one.

I joined a writing club, playwright class and volunteer at my local theatre – there are no regrets and I have met new friends with the same interests as I have.

Reading is something that has given me confidence, from being a child to an adult. It is why I love writing so much. To immerse ourselves in another world without leaving a room is a reason to cry, smile, or take a step in another character’s life.

It has always been there for me, from when I was five to being sixty – My favourite books have to be the Harry Potter series, because it brought a new love to reading as an adult.

Keep calm and a story will always be there to be told.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
