Sorrento – Day One

Hi or should I say, Ciao to all my blogging friends. Been a while since I posted, but I have been to sunny Sorrento for a week. I am writing a day by day guide of my holiday as I am now home.

Sorrento Day One

We arrived at Birmingham Airport three hours before our flight. I couldn’t sleep and didn’t want to be late. It was my first time on a plane. I never once felt nervous; been dreaming of flying for months and waking up disappointed.

Going through customs was an unfamiliar experience for me, and they checked my bag because of a small bottle of shampoo. Otherwise, we went through without a problem.

Once in our seats, my hubby described all the things I was about to experience. Seat belts on, and we rose above the clouds. I couldn’t stop looking at the blanket of white beneath the wings. So beautiful. A soft sheet covering the sky, protecting the passengers.

I thought about my dad. He was a paratrooper, and I grew up with his stories. He is the reason I wanted to go. That and I am writing a book called Orvieto. This was a gift for my sixtieth birthday from my son and daughter and a trip I will always remember with love.

We travelled with a holiday company. They looked after us, providing transport to the hotel. Although I annoyed the bus driver because I couldn’t remember the name and my confident Italian only covered ordering a cup of coffee and a tea (Un caffe e un te, per favore).

I am trying to learn with the Duo-Lingo app.

Sorrento is a gorgeous place to visit. The sea is a shade of blue I’ve not seen before. Although we didn’t see more than clouds on the first couple of days. More like UK weather.

I will write more tomorrow, let you know of my adventures

A presto (see you soon)

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. I am so glad you had a great flight and that you’re sharing the experience. I kept a journal ion 2010, but do you think I can find it? Looking forward to sharing your adventures!
