Sorrento – Diary

Salve, Ciao and another hello from me.

In a few days, I am back at work. All I need to think about is the azure sea and I will be back there with the colourful sunsets and blue skies.

Not ready to go on excursions, we travelled by SITA bus to Sorrento. Hungry for an Italian breakfast, we brought salted caramel crepes (bellisimo) and an eclair full of fresh cream. I thanked them with a (perfetto, prego). Perfect, see you soon.

Sorrento reminded me of Windsor. Instead of flags and tiny ornaments of Big Ben, there were lots of lemons. My first purchase was an umbrella. It always works when rain is forecast. I also got a lemon bag, tea towel, Italian hoodie-we used our euros to wonderful effect. Each cobbled street reminded me of Diagon Alley. Would have loved to buy a wand there! As we turned a corner, we found another street just like it.

I said to all the shop assistants, (piacere) nice to meet you.

My first trip abroad, and I was loving it. A bus ride to our hotel, we took the advice of another tourist about somewhere for dinner. A walk down a hill away, another glorious meal. Thirty-three euros. Our server spoke excellent English. My Italian, not so much. Why don’t we put more of an effort into learning?

That’s something I intend to change.

Prego, I will write more soon.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
