1. As a child, how did you make extra pocket money?
I would help clean my bedroom and go shopping for my parents. It was my job to go and get the Sunday paper and cigarettes. Back then if you had a note from your parents they would allow you to buy them.
2. What did you spend your pocket money on?
I spent it on teddy bears (a gummy sweet) or American hard gums, marbles, and a comic – Misty, Jackie or Whoopie.
3. Was your first pay packet in cash, cheque (check) or directly into your bank?
It was paid in cash, and I earned £30.
4. Have you ever received a discount for paying for something in cash?
No, unless you count some small building work at home.
I am grateful that my parents brought me up to be respectful to other people.

The gummy bears and the gums bring me back to my childhood. I ate chewing gum often while I was a kid, along with candies.

Diana, £30 for a first pay packet in cash feels like such a solid childhood memory to hold onto. Love that the closing thought lands on gratitude for being raised to be respectful, that’s a lovely note to end on.
