Stitches

Stitches reveal

Stitches into scars heal

Stitches of trauma stream across

Stitches.

As you heal, stitches reveal, you are stronger than you think.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Diana, there’s something really powerful about how you stayed with just one word the whole way through. “Stitches” starts off almost clinical and by the end it feels like a kind of healing in itself, like saying it enough times takes away some of its weight. Knowing this connects to your own story makes it hit even harder. That closing line, “you are stronger than you think,” is such a gentle way to land it. Really moving piece.

  2. Diana, the stitches hold us together until we are scarred – leaving the remnants of wounds marking us as survivors! (the dead don’t scar)… Wonderful poem that has a serious message!
