Fandango’s Story Starter – Don’t you dare come any closer

Something in the darkness spoke. It was a quiet voice drifting over the lake like a phantom of my past. ‘Don’t come any closer.’ It said. I didn’t know if it was human, but I had heard it before.

My hands reached out, but there was nothing there. At home in the dark, nothing fazed me. Tonight I wasn’t so sure. One tentative step forward, I heard it again.

‘Don’t come any closer.’

I needed to find out what was beyond the veil. I wanted to reach out and talk to the one person who would understand me. I wanted to take a step closer. A step closer to my father. A step closer to my mother.

‘It’s not your time, don’t come any closer.’

Reluctantly, I turned away.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
