‘This type of work load is unsustainable,’ Sheila said, as her another pile of letters were thrown on her desk like confetti.

It was just another day at the office, and meetings had to be typed up, orders placed, and whole lot of phone calls answered. Since Colleen had resigned, she worked alone.

Normally, as bosses went, he was fairly easy going. In the last few weeks it was different. Her hours got gradually longer, and she left for work earlier, just to keep up with the amount of work she was expected to do.

Her screen saver, a beach in Hawaii, lured her to a holiday she had always dreamed of. Enough was enough. The chair was pushed against the wall and she stood up. ‘I quit,’ she said.

With her new passport in her pocket, Sheila took the first few steps to freedom. Would she get another job? She wasn’t sure. But she would book her first holiday in years.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
