Awry and Figure

It could have been dehydration, but Bethany could have sworn it said thank you before swimming away from the boat. To figure out what to do next, without water, or food to keep her alive, swoops around her head like an out of control fledgling learning to fly.

Her dream, swiftly turning into a nightmare. Awry the moment she chose the sea to be her mistress it was still the right choice. Nothing on land made sense. Everything connected to the sea flowed straight to her heart. She would die in this little boat. A smile spread across her delirious face.

If it was meant to end here, then so be it.

Closing her eyes, her hand swept the salty sea across in little neat rows. Did she sleep for minutes or hours? Everything was real, but time moving as if in a dream. Stuttering from sun, to stars in the blink of her consciousness.

Her lips dry, but no water to soothe them she dreamt of wedding banquets. A cake to rival no other. With sweet raisins mixed within the sponge so sweet upon her tongue. Tender beef cut into thin slices, and ale to wash it all down.

‘Are you okay?’ A quiet voice whispers on the breeze.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
