Word prompts – Faithful friends

When my old dog, Scamp, passed away I wasn’t sure I would get a new dog. It had been an inspiring journey with him. My husband always owned dogs, and I was aghast when he said we should have one.

I am a cat person, and all my life they were given houseroom. Candy, Chelsea were pampered pets. I couldn’t introduce a fully grown dog into their mix.

When my children got involved, I agreed, but only if we got a puppy.

I didn’t look back, and from the moment Scamp opened his eyes, we bonded. We brought him all manner of toys, and introduced him to Chelsea, and Cindy. Chelsea ran out of the room and only came back when given ham. Cindy glared at me, before going upstairs. In they end they all got along fine, and Scamp understood the hierarchy, especially when he got a swipe across his nose.

I wasn’t sure I was going to get another dog, but it felt weird not having one around. When my daughter got her dog, Luna, It was just the push I needed.

Titan, a name thought of by my son, fits him perfectly. Three years later and he makes me smile every day. From his half howling at the door, when a pigeon walks by, or his constant search for food. He is a forty pound dog, with an immense heart. I would love to get another cat, but I’m not sure he would be entirely happy with that.

SCAMP – My Best Friend

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. What a wonderful story! I have four cats and they are the apples of my eye. Isn’t it amazing how our furry friends can capture our hearts? I’m madly in love with Laura. Scamp and Titan are special too, but Laura steals the show!
