As a child I remember my dad by three things.
He had given up smoking when I was very young and ate extra strong mints to stop him from taking up the habit again. Bryll Cream – he swept his hair back using this. It had a comforting smell.
The last thing was his love of doing crossword puzzles.
I would watch him concentrate on the clues, and bit by bit the puzzle would be filled. I have tried to complete crosswords myself, but unless the clues are explicit I cannot figure them out. Even when I am completing a Sudoku puzzle I have to look to the back of the book for answers.
Naughty Naughty! Looking at the answers. I will work on the same crossword for days and then take one small peek. I honestly can look at the answers and focus on the one spot I need for a letter.
