Excuse me for my rant, but I have had enough of being swindled. I’ve known my guttering needs doing for a while now, so I got quotes and got someone in to do the job.

Two weeks ago he arrived (five hours late) and did half the job because he said I needed new guttering for the back of the house. Fair enough, I half suspected that myself. He told me that he would be there Tuesday, then Saturday, then Sunday.

I’m now annoyed, not so much because the netting he put up is already broken (pigeons use ingenious ways these days) but we are now two weeks later and the new guttering is still not up. I accepted his problems for waiting for stock, but enough is enough.

I’m so done now. He told me he would be here today, at ten in the morning, and still isn’t here. I’ve sent a text, which hasn’t been answered. If he isn’t here today I will get someone else to finish the job.

Sorry for the rant, but I am so annoyed, but more so at myself. I still hope he will turn up, I don’t want to go through getting another roofer to finish the job. Not only because I know it will cost more money than I have right now, but I don’t know who to trust.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. I’m so sorry that happened to you, I do know there’s a shortage of all kinds of construction materials, but I also know there are a lot of con men out there. I hope he isn’t one, and your gutters get done this weekend!

  2. So do I, it has been pushed back to tomorrow, but if it isn’t done I will call someone else. I think I’m more frustrated because we have a whole family of pigeons on our roof.

  3. We had something similar with a plumber a few months back. Still haven’t found one, although I’ve kinda given up looking.

It annoys me that people expect to be so handsomely paid, and yet offer such an unprofessional service. I have “gardeners” coming around to the house wanting the same amount for cutting back bushes as I was paid for traipsing up into the City every day.

  4. It would be helpful if he told you the reasons for the delay but yeah trust is the first thing to go in such situations. Hope he shows up and makes up for it.
