I am the youngest child, and there are many benefits to this. I’m sure my older brother and sister will say I got away with a lot as a child., but as I watched them gain in independence I was still at home. I wanted to be where they were, able to make my own decisions.
I used to count the months until could leave school and earn some money. I’m fifteen and four months, five months (counting on into infinity) until I was sixteen.
The euphoria of getting my first pay check (£30) and I was finally on my way to earning some money. My brother used to give me a lift to work in his blue car. I lasted about a month before I got let go. (My typing skills weren’t legendary, and I used far too much Tipex)
I’ve had many jobs since then, but my longest by far, was working at the post office. I delivered letters, typed little blue dots on the letters so machines could read them. (my typing skills were better then and I could type 3000 postcodes per minute) and quality control.
I have long since gained my independence, but now instead of adding months to my age, I round it (I’m in my fifties) to the nearest decade. Sometimes I wish I could go back to my youth and have someone else make my decisions, but we have worked hard to gain our independence.
I can certainly understand the euphoria of getting my first pay check. I was the spoilt baby of the family my brothers and sisters reckoned. Thanks for joining in 🙂 🙂

I am the youngest of four children, also. I remember well my first job as a waitress, I made 90¢ an hour plus tips. At that time, people did not tip like they do now. It was not much money, but it seemed a lot to me! Thanks for joining in today!

Thanks for joining in. I remember the first time I was paid as a babysitter. The idea that it was mine, and all mine, was so thrilling.
