I smile at my colleague beside me, but his green skin has lost his sheen. This meeting of M.A.R.S. – Method and Race Survival. I see worry on a lot of other faces too.

Different inhabitants with one goal in mind. Finding another planet to move to. The damage done to our planet is irreversible now. It was only when we lost fifty percent of our ice-caps that plastic was banned.

It was too late – we know that now.

‘There is only one hope to our race, and that is Science,’ Milton says, his skin changing to a deeper green. ‘Our planet is lost, but there is hope.’ He reveals a picture of Earth on his screen.

‘Earth, but it is a primitive planet.’

‘Indeed, but it can sustain our life. We will be able to live again, but learn from our mistakes.’

‘How, there are others out there, who still don’t believe we are responsible.’

The room is silent now, and it is true there are many, who don’t believe the death of our planet is to do with their lives.

‘We have to start again, there are oceans, which are so like our own planet. We have a chance to start again.’

‘But they’re only single cells, it will be millions of years before the planet’s air will be breathable. I see your point, but I don’t know how it will work. ‘

‘Then we change, adapt to different forms within the planet, until our home heals. It will take millions of years, but it will heal.’

I understand its the fair way, but with different forms, our memories will change. Scientists have explored a way of saving our species. It is only fair we all undergo the same treatment.

But the trick is those in power will not meet the same fate. Some will always regain their ability to cause the same damage on Earth. I make the decision to be the person of change.

We have made great progress, but too late for Mars. If I regain my skills, then I can make sure Earth doesn’t face the same fate.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
