Snack Time

I will have to say that snack time has totally changed for me since joining a weight watching group. I have lost three stone and am proud of my achievement, but I love chocolate. For me it is my Achilles heel, but I can’t stop eating it and don’t really want to try.

So to get my chocolate fix, I choose healthier options. They have their own healthy bars, which have chocolate in them. When I need something sweet, they are the first thing I go to.

Snacking as a child was completely different.

I used to go to the shops on a Sunday and buy twenty pence worth of sweets (American Hard gums and Teddy Bears) I loved the red ones, but I still don’t know why. My least favourite were the green sweets, but again, I’m not sure why. They tasted different.

At night, before I went to sleep, I would have a hot milk with ginger biscuits. There is something very satisfying when you dunk a biscuit. Especially when some of the remnants fall to the bottom. Digestive work just as well, and a ”non-healthy snack” to go to bed with.

When I have a coffee, or tea at night, I still have something to eat with it. I don’t think I will ever get out of the habit, but at least I can say my snacks are slightly more healthy than they used to be.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. It’s so nice to have you join in again this week. I have had periods of my life when I watched my weight closely, but not so much anymore. I do have to watch the fats in my diet now, so chocolate is one of those things I have to be careful of. I just finished a cup of tea and a biscuit would have been nice! I was never a fan of hot milk, though. Maybe I would like it now that I am older. 🙂
