If you’re not an American, based upon what you’ve read, seen, and heard, do you feel that America has, indeed, faltered? Or do you think that America will weather this storm?
In answer to Fandango’s provocative question, I don’t really know enough to answer. I think the state of the world in general is on a downward spiral and that includes the UK.
We will recover, but have to admit there is a problem first. I think that those in charge should lead by example, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a part to play. We can blame the system for everything that has gone wrong, but we are in charge of our own actions.
For me it is choosing to do the right thing, and not complaining when life throws a few lemons. For example we had a petrol problem in the UK, and many made it worse by panic buying petrol. Those who really needed it, often found the pumps empty. It was toilet roll a few years ago, and people were even panic buying vegetables (which go off within days). The elderly suffered because the shelves were empty.
I just feel like it is a me, me, me society at the moment. If they are okay, then that’s all that matters. It shouldn’t be that way, and we need to show more kindness and empathy towards others, so they can show it to us.
Nobody is more important than anyone else.
I think greed, corruption, and unenlightened self-interests have taken over and I’m not sure there is a clear path back to when we looked out for one another.
