My favourite toys as a child were definitely Cindy/Barbie dolls. I carried a big blue bag with me everywhere. I never really felt like I went without, but when I saw my next door neighbour’s toys I wondered why I didn’t have as many.
They had a whole loft full of toys – or that is how I remember it.
Did I lose anything by not having a selection to choose from? No, because I had all I needed. What I didn’t have I just made myself. My parents weren’t wealthy, but I was loved. My parents would go without to buy me the things I wanted and that helped me respect their hard work.
This is adorable. I never felt like I had too many toys, but I definitely wasn’t hurting. I remember one Christmas I just wanted one game – Careers. I was thrilled that I got it. I had a Barbie, I think only one, and I sewed her clothes. She had a black plastic carrying case. I didn’t have a Cindy doll. Probably I was too old. I had Ginny dolls that I adored. It was a different time to grow up, but I am grateful my parents brought me up like they did. I was taught from the best.
