There’s Been a Murder

At first, I thought it was only the dog making noise, but it was something else. I was about to tell my dog to be quiet, but it was the cats I should have been worried about.

I crept down the stairs, and into my front room. I was almost afraid to turn on the light. Feline paws padded across the carpet, and brushed past me at the entrance. As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I looked to the carpet.

There had been a murder, a miniature, headless corpse is motionless on my carpet. The culprits long gone, I screamed so loud I nearly woke my husband. Then a disturbing thought struck me and I rushed to the kitchen, where an empty cage littered the floor.

Gerbils, they got the gerbils.

I rushed upstairs, and this time my husband woke up.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
