‘The things I’ve seen would make your toes curl,’ Granddad says. ‘You politicians think you know it all!’

It is one of his funny sayings, but Toby was never quite sure what he meant. How can something make your toes curl? He looked to his toes every day, but they never did curl.

Certain phrases confused him, like when the teacher told him to pull his socks up, and he looked to them at they were already pulled up. Another saying his mum said all the time was ”money down the drain”. He never did put any money down any drain.

They needed to be more clear with their words.

”Granddad if your toes are curled how do you put on your shoes?”

There was a hint of a smile on his face, as he looked at his autistic grandson. ”Sorry I got angry son, but my feet don’t really curl. It is just a saying, that’s all.”
