Terra Firma

The RagTag prompt today is cruise and I can think of nothing worse than spending my holiday surrounded by water. I’m not that great at swimming, and I would be afraid of drowning. I know that is a stupid fear, but it is the same as being afraid of mice. They cannot harm me, but I still don’t want them in the room. They scuttle, and come out of nowhere.

My husband says he wants to go on a cruise. He seems surprised when I say I wouldn’t want to go. He makes the point that I can’t fly, yet I have no problems going on an airplane. But at least with flying it is over in less than a day, and I can be in the sunshine. On a boat, there is no escape from the water that surrounds it.

You are holiday for two weeks with the same surroundings. I would much rather be able to go to different places using my car, than on a boat. It is weird how people are like this. We have an inept fear of something that will never happen. Maybe one day I will be persuaded to go on a cruise, but I don’t think so.

I would love to go to Hawaii one day, and my husband says he would like to go to Las Vegas. He would be in awe of the fruit machines, and would need a lot of money to go with. I would sit on my beach, with a glass of wine, and relax with a book.

So, I won’t be going cruising anytime soon, and sometimes it is better to have a holiday where your feet are always on the ground.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
