Apparatus in front of her, she was ready to do the first mechanical heart transplant. A way of saving a life, without taking a life. Her training forthright, after her grandmother’s diagnosis of heart disease at the age of fifty-five. She still had a long life ahead. With this heart, she could live for many more years.
Her last words before she closed her eyes, from the anaesthetic, I believe in you, my little half-pint. Bohemian Rhapsody playing in the background, she made the first cut. Five hours later, a mechanical heart, beating to the same song.
‘See you later Grannie,’ Sarah whispered, watching her being taken back to the ward.
There was something special about the way her new heart beat to the rhythm of the music.
This is so positive and uplifting! Great take on the word, Diana!
