Question today is
How do you feel about online anonymity?
Do you believe that when people are hiding their real world identity, it encourages them to misbehave or to be offensive?
Or does it allow people to reveal who they really are or possibly how they would choose to be and act all the time if they could?
I think if you have something to say, and it is potentially controversial or offensive or controversial, then hiding behind a computer screen is not acceptable. If you want to stand by your belief then don’t hide behind anonymity.
Everyone has a point of view, but it doesn’t give anyone the right to air a viewpoint, which is not only offensive, but can cause pain. I am of the belief, if you can’t say it face to face to a person, do not say it online.
I go under a pen name, but I would never say anything to the detriment of other bloggers. There was a blogger yesterday, who had an opinion about what is taught in schools. I disagreed with that statement, but didn’t make a comment on their website because we all have different opinions. Even if I used my own name, I still wouldn’t have made a comment.
