Safe

I want to go to school today,

but my stomach

is tied in knots,

Can I stay at home?

Homework I’ll do lots.

I want to go to school today,

But I’ve a headache

really bad.

Can I stay at home?

so I will feel less sad.

I want to go to school today,

but, oh my

beating heart.

Can I stay a home?

I’ll go tomorrow

that’s a start.

I want to go to school today

but my legs

wobble like jelly.

Can I stay home?

Watch something

educational on the telly.

What are you trying to tell me?

I know that you’re not ill.

Can you tell me why, for real?

You don’t want to go to school.

I don’t want to go to school

today. Please don’t

make me go.

I’m being bullied,

but, please don’t tell.

They always laugh

at me. Take my lunch

money as well.

I’m glad that you told me,

your warning signs were clear.

I’m really sorry

I was too busy to hear.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
