Fancy

Fandango’s word today is Fancy.

‘I want something fancy for our anniversary,’ Dawn said.

‘Like what?’

Dawn smoothed down her hair, and thought about their thirty-five year long marriage. They always had to save for anything they wanted. Her dream of going to Italy, and all they could afford was a couple of days down to Margate.

Not that she wasn’t looking forward to it, they used to go there when before they were married. The weather, it was meant to be good, but then you couldn’t really rely on British weather in the summer. Although there was still a chance it could snow.

‘I don’t know, but it would be nice . . .’

‘To go to Italy,’ Alan said, handing over two tickets.

‘But I haven’t got a passport.’

‘That’s easily sorted, I’ve already started the application, and you collect it next week. That bill you were signing for was your passport. I got Amy to fill it in for me.’

‘We’re really going to Italy.’

‘As soon as you pick your passport up, why don’t you pack.’

‘I love you,’ she said.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
