Hot, It’s too Hot

Written for Reena’s Xploration Challenge.

This last week has been a weird weather week, and not in a good way.

The sun was so hot this week, there were prefabs in London that caught fire due to the extreme heat. I remember sitting in my car at 6 in the afternoon, and it feeling like the middle of the day, and it was still too hot.

I am old enough to remember the summer of 76, it is still talked about today, as weather being so hot we weren’t allowed to use hosepipes, and could get fined if we did so. Wasting water was a crime, and I used to go to the Lido, where I could sunbathe, swim, and eat ice-cream.

It wasn’t even as hot then as it was on Tuesday.

I went to an indoor swimming pool with with daughter, and granddaughter, and the cold water was bliss. We all knew we had to go back to the car, and weren’t looking forward to the wall of heat outside.

Suffice to say, we didn’t take our dog out, and spent the rest of the day in front of a fan, and drinking plenty of water. I’m glad it was only two days, as if we had to live with that heat for a longer period, we would struggle to live with the heat.

There needs to be something we can do to reverse the trend.

We know what is causing the heat to rise, but we do nothing about it. I was talking to someone the other day and she said, ”Why don’t we stop making plastic bags”. This was when I made the suggestion that there should be a place where we can take old milk bottles (plastic) Re-use them. PG Tips are not using plastic on their boxes, or their tea bags. There are many others that could follow suit.

Have a better system for recycling, don’t make new products when there are products that can be used again. When we don’t need something give it to charity, so it can be used again. I’m no expert, but there is more we can do.

We only have one planet, and we need to take care of it.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

    1. It is, and there are ways we can do it. Like the idea someone I talked to had. Stop making the plastic bags, and instead try and think a way of using the ones we have got already If we can’t recycle the lids of milk bottles ect, then make ones that do recycle. Sell fruit and vegetables loose, so we can only buy as much as we need for that day.
