Word of the Day – Languish

Today’s word of the day is languish, and that is all I am doing right now. It is over thirty-five degrees in England and too hot to do anything. It is too hot to go outside. I can’t walk the dog because it is too hot for his paws, so he got a walk first thing this morning before the heat got too oppressive.

Even sitting her, typing, and I have opened up all my windows, with an ice-cold drink of water in my bottle.

I’m typing up my new beat sheet for my new novel, which has changed so much since the original idea. Even from last night, when I showed it to my writing group. For those who don’t know, a beat sheet makes sure you hit all the beats, so you will have everything to make a good story.

It isn’t everything though, and I still have to re-write it, without thinking about my previous story. Learn alongside my character, who is slowly going blind, to use equipment to help her learn to live in a world without sight.

I’ve done my research, and know you can use a mobile, computer, using the speech software. Originally my character was blind from the start, but I didn’t know enough to make the narrative real, so I am learning alongside my character instead. She is a journalist, and going blind, and I wanted to show she can be both.

She lives through a lot, and most of us do, but we can still survive.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.

  1. Ooooh, congratulations on that progression. I love the way that writing can help to encourage us to see the world through other perspectives and understand what others might have to go through.
