Lazy River

Today Fandango’s prompt is lazy and this place is where I would love to be at the moment. On a lazy river, just watching the world flow by.

Mary, alone in her wooden boat, laid the oars inside, and decided let the river take her home. She leaned against her jacket and gazed into the cloudless sky. Peaceful, nothing but calm meandered around her body.

She could hear nothing but birds, and if she closed her eyes, could have been asleep. She lowered one arm in the water. Water, cool and refreshing, washed over her fingers in a happy greeting.

There was no where else she wanted to be.

Her mobile on silent, she wasn’t going to take calls today. She needed to relax, take some time for herself. Yes, others were important, but she couldn’t help them, if she didn’t take care of her own health. Today she was going to be lazy, recharge her energy, before going back home.

Just half an hour more, and the sun would say goodbye to the light, but she was in the right direction to go home. Safe, happy, and full of life.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
