A Winsome Day

‘Today is a sort of winsome day,’ Laura said, dragging her shoes in the mud.

‘Winsome?’

‘Yes Mummy, it has rained all day, and we weren’t allowed outside to play.’

Not wanting to say what the word meant, she kind of liked her daughter’s version of the word. It was a kind of winsome day because of the innocent way she said it. She pulled out wellington boots from her bag, and passed them down.

‘How about you jump in some puddles on the way home, and maybe I’ll join you.’

Puddles, rain, and the grin on her daughter’s face was worth it.

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
