The Colonel

The colonel said, “Our security has been breached again and I think we may have a human in our midst. It was a hive of activity, the Queen bee in her palace, ordering the drones to their flower duties.

‘Send out the army, we’ll get rid of them once and for all.’

‘On sting alert sir?’ the female officer said.

‘Yes, but only when necessary, just buzz around their faces for a while, they’ll run a mile.’

The Swarm, an elite bunch of bees, ready to defend their hive, bunched together, buzzing angrily. The sticks dropped to the floor, the teenagers ran for cover. It didn’t take long for them to spread to the wind. Nobody wanted to sting, not if they could help it. The female elite, defending their home, flew back like amazon warriors.

‘Good job ladies, the queen is proud, stand down colonel.’

I am a fifty something mother of two grown up children, and one beautiful grandchild. I have been married for nearly thirty-four years. My first book was published ten years ago. I wrote my book Sticks and Stones because of my experience of being bullied at school.
